Great Plains Health - Engineering for New Patient Tower

We provided mechanical and electrical engineering design as well as construction administration services for the new 213,000-square-foot, $111 million Patient Tower and Central Utility Plant at Great Plains Health. The project includes:

  • A five-story patient tower with 116 private patient rooms, including intensive care, labor & delivery, medical/surgical and behavioral health.
  • Expansion of the Central Utility Plant, including the addition of 2400 KW of generator capacity, a 4000-Amp electrical service and 1500 tons of chiller and cooling tower capacity. The hospital can operate off-line from the utility service and can load-shed, parallel and separate from the local utility via a graphical computer interface.
  • A new Information Technology Server Room to serve the entire hospital campus, with redundant 200 KVA uninterruptable power supplies, dedicated underfloor cooling, and clean-agent fire protection.
  • A new 12,000-square-foot Kitchen/Cafeteria
  • A new Conference Center
  • Cardiac Rehabilitation Center with outpatient rehab area and examination rooms
  • New administration offices
  • Larger public spaces including the chapel, cafeteria, lobby, outdoor areas, gift shop
  • Sustainable features including on-site energy production, innovative patient room lighting controls, fan-array air handling units, high-efficiency boilers, variable-primary chilled water systems, and demand-controlled ventilation.
