HBPA Lincoln Race Course

The Lincoln Race Course is a dining and entertainment destination, as well as a horseracing simulcast venue. Our design for the facility, located on the edge of Lincoln, was inspired by the intersection between the rural and the urban, and the rustic nature of a horse track interwoven with the excitement of a Las Vegas casino.

On the exterior of the building, light shines through laser-cut metal panels that depict racehorses on the track. Inside and outside, railings resemble the fencing used around a track. Interior finishes incorporate wood-grain tile and earth tones calling to mind the visuals of horseracing.

These materials and colors were innovatively mixed with casino-like stylings such as slick, gleaming metal surfaces and bright pops of color. The sports bar and full-service dining room feature more than 250 large screens. Guests can also use individual carrels with individual monitors, or gather around bar-height tables. The outdoor lounge was designed to be as comfortable as the indoor spaces, with cooling and heat. Air and energy recovered from the building is used to warm the space, along with outdoor heaters. Finishes resemble those used inside.

This project is Phase 1 of a Master Plan, also completed by our firm, which calls for future stables, a grandstand, and a one-mile track. The facility also can be expanded upward to support suites and a banquet level when the course is complete.
