Lincoln Mall Streetscape

Lincoln Mall is a boulevard that connects the Nebraska State Capitol to Lincoln’s City/County Government Complex. A sculpture of President Abraham Lincoln is located at the State Capitol on the east end of the Mall and a sculpture titled “Lincoln the Rail Joiner” depicting Lincoln as a young man is located on the west end of the Mall. These two sculptures serve as bookends and inspired the design concept, which educates the community on the life and philosophy of the 16th President and City namesake.

Quotes from President Lincoln are etched on new planters and bus shelters. A quote from Rosa Parks is etched on a bus shelter, connecting the civil rights movement with Lincoln’s legacy of ending slavery. Another bus shelter describes Lincoln. New bus shelters and street furniture were constructed with copper-colored material inspired by the familiar Lincoln copper penny image. Other key design elements include new seating areas, renovated pavements, new ornamental lighting, and plantings.
