LPS Moore Middle School

LPS Moore Middle School

This project is a partnership between the Lincoln Public Schools and the Lincoln Family YMCA. One facility will house the new Marilyn Moore Middle School as well as the Copple Family YMCA. The $43 million, 243,000-square-foot facility opened in fall 2017.

The middle school serves grades 6-8 and comprises 179,500 gross square feet of the 237,500-square-foot facility. The main entry is sheltered by a large raised canopy. It opens to a main lobby, and a two-story multi-purpose space that is at the heart of the facility. Full-height glazing in the lobby and in the multi-purpose space allows a view straight through the school. Amenities that are shared among the grade levels are offered to the east and west of this area.

West of this space, on the first floor, the portion of the school closest to the YMCA consists of the administration area, a health classroom, a teacher planning center, and music and industrial technology classrooms. A kiosk staffed by the YMCA provides access to the middle school locker rooms, a fitness room, a single gymnasium, and a double gymnasium that lies beyond this point. The second floor of this portion of the building contains FCS classrooms, an art room, health classrooms, a computer lab, a teacher planning center, and a corridor leading through the atrium-like multi-purpose room to the classroom pods.

East of the central multi-purpose room are media center and computer labs. Further east is a three-story classroom wing that incorporates the pod concept. Each level is dedicated to a different grade, and contains general purpose classrooms, two science classrooms, two special education classrooms, a computer lab, teacher planning center, restrooms, and conference rooms. The classrooms surround a large locker commons that can be used during class time for collaborative learning and teaching spaces.

The 30-acre site is surrounded by public park space on the south and east, and is large enough to accommodate future additions to the school or YMCA.
