Messiah Lutheran Church - Master Plan, Addition and Renovation

Our work for Messiah Lutheran Church and School began with a master plan to expand their existing facility. The first phase of the master plan included a new 850-seat worship center, space for a Christian day-care facility, classrooms, new offices and restrooms, and parking for 400 additional cars.

The architectural forms—the gable roof, dormers and clerestory windows—are simple and traditional. But the compositions of these traditional forms are new and exciting. This design concept is carried through in the interior, with a dramatic lighting scheme that received a design award from the International Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.

The spacious sanctuary and numerous classrooms facilitate preaching and teaching. The large narthex provides ample space for gatherings with focus on the family aspect of ministry. All of these changes, along with remodeling the existing sanctuary into a fellowship hall, gave Messia space to expand its ministry.

The design incorporated extensive input from congregation members, gathered through design workshops and review meetings held throughout the design process.
