Saint James Catholic Church - Master Plan and New Church

St. James Church serves the spiritual needs of approximately 120 families in Adams, Cortland, Hickman, Firth, and other nearby towns and villages in Gage and Lancaster Counties. Because of building maintenance issues and parish growth, the existing church in Cortland could no longer satisfy parish needs.

We worked closely with members of the building committee to develop a two-phase master plan to meet the long-term needs of the parish. The first phase was a new 250-seat nave, sanctuary, sacristy and office area. Consistent with the philosophy of the parish, this is a very traditional church design. Future expansion of the sanctuary is possible by moving the altar to further to the rear. The sacristy and office area was located to form a link to a future parish hall.
