Winfield Public Library - Study and Renovation

The Winfield Public Library, a mid-century modern structure, was built in 1962 as a collegiate library and renovated in 1990 to serve the public. We were hired in 2012 to conduct a study, and ultimately renovate the facility to accommodate new technologies and expanded services. We provided spatial analysis and program verification as well as a phasing plan, schematic layout and estimated construction costs. For funding reasons, the project is be implemented in stages, and will be completed in May 2016.

The phased improvements provide technology throughout, with dedicated computer areas for each user group, and access to power and data. The main Service Point will be expanded to improve workflow and convenience. A reorganized collection will better serve the varying user groups.

Updates also include new Young Adult spaces, expanded children’s spaces, and a new, dedicated children’s program room and family restroom. The renovated meeting room includes a new warming kitchen and table/chair storage. Finishes, lighting and acoustics are being improved throughout the building, and new glazed openings will bring natural light into the library.
