Woods Park Master Plan and Improvements

Woods Park Master Plan and Improvements

We have a long history of design at Woods Park, beginning with the park’s earliest master plans in the 1960s, and continuing with various parks improvements, master plan updates, and – most recently – a new indoor tennis center.

The most recent master plan for the 48-acre park involved extensive neighborhood input. We outlined a vision for multi-purpose play fields for football, soccer and softball, as well as open play space and a new sprayground, shelter, bike paths and playground. The master plan clarified pedestrian circulation and outlined ways to improve access from the adjacent neighborhoods into the park.

We then made significant improvements to make the park a more well-rounded recreational site for all ages. This included replacing the existing tennis clubhouse to create improved access to the indoor courts and visual control of the exterior courts. A plaza connects the tennis center to the new “sprayground,” an interactive water play area. We also designed new landscaping that showcases a “Water Fight” sculpture and melds the new features with the existing structures.

We were recently hired to design a new indoor tennis center to replace the existing tennis bubbles. Features include six indoor and 12 outdoor courts, upper- and lower-level viewing galleries for 900 spectators, a flexible community space for meetings, off-court training, and special eventss, and expanded locker rooms.
