Winfield Public Library, Study and Renovation

Clark & Enersen was selected to conduct a study of the Winfield Public Library in 2012 and complete a renovation of the facility to accommodate new technologies and expanded services. The mid-century building was built in 1962 as a collegiate library and was renovated in 1990 to serve the public.

After performing spatial analysis and program verification, we developed a phased plan and schematic layout and provided an estimation of construction costs. The project was implemented in stages as funding became available, with work concluding in late 2016.

Highlights of the project include:

  • Dedicated computer areas for various age groups.
  • Expanded main service point for improved convenience and efficiency.
  • Reorganized collection to better serve diverse user groups.
  • New young adult spaces.
  • Expanded children’s spaces, dedicated children’s program room, and family restroom.
  • Renovated meeting room with warming kitchen and storage for tables and chairs.
  • Upgraded finishes, lighting, and acoustics throughout the building.
  • New glazed openings to bring natural light into the library.
