Johnson County Community College, Welding, Construction, Machining, and Technology Renovation

In August 2020, Clark & Enersen completed renovation work for the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Welding, Construction, Machining, and Technology building which houses the general welding programs. Originally built in 1981, the facility previously housed art studios and photography darkrooms as well as specialized facilities for industrial programs, such as automotive technology, electrical technology, HVAC technology, and general welding. Project goals and design concepts included:

  • Merging the JCCC and Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) general welding programs in an integrated facility; providing open student spaces for students of both JCCC and BNSF to collaborate.
  • Providing clean, well-exhausted welding spaces with visibility from the corridors to showcase the department.
  • Enhancing the west façade to create a more welcoming entrance for students.
  • Making all building entrances more visible for pedestrian traffic.
  • Providing flexible classroom spaces with both monitors and whiteboards to allow for a variety of presentation and collaborative activities.
  • Replacing the existing CorTen panels with a metal panel rainscreen system which will more closely relate to adjacent building language.
