South Dakota State University, Dairy Microbiology and Ag Hall Renovations

Clark & Enersen provided architecture and engineering services for the renovation of South Dakota State University’s Ag Hall and Dairy Microbiology buildings. The Ag Hall project covered the 3rd floor and basement, which included installing new HVAC and electrical systems that would not only support the renovated floors, but also allow for renovating the 1st and 2nd floors in the future.

The Dairy Microbiology project consisted of an addition and phased renovation to the existing building, which involved:

  • Renovating the facility’s entire classroom/laboratory wing, including the main lobby and lecture hall.
  • Installing new air handling units, exhaust fans, and energy recovery systems to increase capacity and redundancy.
  • Adding new ductwork and laboratory airflow control systems for enhanced ventilation and fume hood control.

Both facilities also benefit from chilled water and steam from an existing central utility system, new electrical services from the campus’s primary loop, and several structural improvements. Throughout the entire process, mechanical and electrical system upgrades were designed and scheduled for minimal disruption to occupied portions of the existing facilities.
